Dao Sul is one of the largest co-operative wine companies in Portugal, with wineries spread across most regions in that country. Dao Sul was founded in 1989 and by 2000 had even acquired wineries in Brazil; it was nominated ‘Company of the Year” in 2001 and 2006, and exports wines all over the world. The Dao region is located in the North of Portugal, surrounded on all sides by mountains, with altitude varying from 200 to 1,000 metres above sea level. Soils are very poor and granitic schist, set amongst pine forests.
