Grüner Veltliner

This variety of grape is considered to be food-friendly; it is also believed to produce sparkling wines but sometimes it also capable of long aging. Grüner Veltliner is primarily grown in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria and helps produce white wine.

Grüner when cropped at high yields it can make a pleasant but light quaffing white, if more care is taken it is capable of even making complex, full flavoured, spicy whites often with a distinctive white flower and cracked pepper flavour to them.

In Austria, Grüner Veltliner plantations stood over 17, 151 hectares (42,380 acres) in 2008. The parents of this variety have not been determined, yet it is used to study viticulture properties through experimental cultivation patterns.

Interesting Facts

Grüner Veltliner has fantastic pairing abilities with everything from green salads to cold poached salmon to roasted chicken.

It is believed that Gruner Vetliner derived its name from Veltlin (Valtellina) in northern Italy back during the Roman times.
