Sauvignon Blanc is a green-skinned grape variety which traces its origins to western France in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux Regions. Depending on the climate, the flavour of Sauvignon Blanc wines can range from aggressively grassy to sweetly tropical. Wine experts have used the phrase "crisp, elegant, and fresh" as a favourable description of Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley and New Zealand. Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc is spicy, floral with mineral flavours while Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc wines have a fruitier personality. Vines planted in flint tend to produce the most vigorous and longest lasting wines. New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is famed for its pungently aromatic green bell pepper, gooseberry & lush passion fruit characters. Sauvignon Blanc wines pairs well with fish, crab, raw oysters, scallops, shrimp, smoked seafood, sushi, salads or cheese, particularly Chèvre. It also goes well with white meats like chicken or turkey.
